"Orange Trees" is a song by Welsh singer and songwriter Marina from her fourth studio album, Love + Fear (2019). The song was released for digital download and streaming as the album's third single on 22 March 2019 by Atlantic Records. It was written by Marina, Oscar Görres, Erik Hassle, and Jakob Jerlstrom, while produced by Görres. Several remixes of the song were commissioned by Atlantic and released throughout 2019, including one produced by German DJ Claptone. An acoustic version of "Orange Trees" appears on Marina's sixth extended play, Love + Fear (Acoustic) (2019). Musically, the song has been described as an electropop and indie pop track, with a tropical beat and lyrics that describe a summer romance spent in the beauty of nature. Marina wrote the song about the island city of Lefkada, Greece, where her family once lived.
"Orange Trees" was released for digital download and streaming as a single in the United States on 22 March 2019 through Atlantic Records.[9] On that same day via Spotify in the US, the song was bundled with previous singles "Handmade Heaven" and "Superstar" as part of a digital extended play to stream.[10] A promotional CD single for "Orange Trees", intended for radio airplay, was distributed throughout the Benelux region of Europe by Atlantic Records and the Warner Music Group. It features the album version of the song plus four remixes, released in advance of their digital distributions.[11]
Atlantic commissioned a total of four remixes to be made for "Orange Trees". They all first appeared on the Benelux promotional CD,[11] but were then released separately for digital download snd streaming; the first one, the Danny Dove remix, was released on 19 April 2019.[12] The Bearson remix and Claptone remix followed, being released on 31 May and 7 June 2019, respectively.[13][14] The Michael Goldwasser & Easy Star All-Stars Reggae remix was the last one, released for digital download and streaming on 14 June.[15] An acoustic version of the song was recorded and included on the track listing for Marina's sixth EP, Love + Fear (Acoustic), on 13 September 2019.[16] It was produced by English musician Benjamin Fletcher.[17]
The original music video for "Orange Trees" was directed by English director Sophie Muller, who had previously collaborated with Marina on the video for "Handmade Heaven".[25] The visual was filmed on location in Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco, Mexico at a private villa and beach.[36] It was later announced that the music video would be released at 10:00 AM (PST) on 22 March 2019.[30] Ultimately, it was uploaded to Marina's official YouTube account on the scheduled date.[36] The video opens following Marina as she walks around a beachfront property in Puerto Vallarta.[30] The next scene shows her lounging in an infinity pool with two female friends; for the first chorus, she is joined by her friends on the beach, as they hold hands and dance in the waves.[36] A different shot has Marina posed in a green dress in front of a wall of flowers. Other scenes show her dancing in the sand of the beach in a one-piece swimsuit and standing on a dock while gazing at the surrounding water. Many of the shots in the video were edited with a color filter to bring out a strong orange hue.[20]
Alongside the YouTube release of the music video, it was made available for download via Apple Music on 22 March 2019.[37] Villa wrote a positive review of the visual, calling it a "colorful video".[20] A contributor for Billboard also enjoyed it, writing that the video "positively radiates with summer sunshine" and summarising it as a "feel-good clip".[26] A separate vertical video, also directed by Muller, was created. It features Marina singing the song in an orange dress and a headpiece containing many flowers. The video was eventually uploaded to her YouTube channel on 12 April 2019.[38]
The album: Stronger The hook: As long as there are bad boys who need lyrical schooling, there will be songs from this triple nominee that expertly cut them down to size.

at this point this song is genuinely old. I started it on february 9th of 2018. the instrumental side was finished almost immediately but as always the reason it's taken well over 3 years to finally consider it finished is because of the vocals. the clean vocals at 2:52 were tracked in 2019. the plan for this song was to always have purely clean singing that would follow that main melody you hear at the beginning and end but that proved to be too hard to sing so I gave up on that idea and eventually decided to just scream and yell the lyrics throughout the song. the entire album was really only going to include clean singing and no screaming or whatever (sounds a lot like 2018 damian). I was way more interested in pretty melodies and singing. this is the album that includes "see you in the orange light" and "I can't say goodbye" and "on a green" (yet to be finished, last one remaining). all of these are songs from 2018. if you listen closely you might noticed similarities between this album and "i want to be there" because they were both essentially written at the same time in the first half of 2018. as a matter of fact way back then these songs were supposed to be life's "demo five" but eventually I realized this has nothing at all to do with what life is about musically. I just remember at one point wanting to pursue "life" as my main vessel for expression because I genuinly hate the band name "sadness". I still do but whatever. I don't know how to describe what "orange love" means in any finite amount of time or words, but basically, certain tones of orange are the most magical color to me, and when I attach and associate or connect things to this tonality they suddenly become exceedingly more potent, placing them in these dreamscapes and places that feel beyond my head but i can feel them so vividly. orange love is about basically a lovestory with no context, just the pure feeling, living and drifting through this tonality, this dreamscape of pure lush orange magic saturating everything. it's absolutely pure and beautiful. I genuinely don't know how much more clearly I can describe what I mean by any of this as it really feels beyond linguistic comprehension. I feel channels and tunnels and passages, motions through time, planes of existence adorned with spores and rich moments of timelessness, everything as densely packed as can be, everything feels absolute. absolute. this state of being that's absolute, and I can only really associate it to my dreams, or moments in my life that felt like dreaming. the song "see you in the orange light" has to do with this too. my own personal experience with these songs is I genuinely feel like I'm tethered to this dream world when I listen to them. it's very lucid. a lot of things about the music are strategically placed in a way to evoke this feeling. in some ways it might sound like the mix is terrible, which it probably is but I don't care. the placement of everything somewhat sounds like the space in my head that I want to capture. the tonality (c# minor) is the most orange magic sound I can think of, and the melodies to me sound just like the fire in some of the most dreamlike feelings in the most intense moments of my life. all of this applies to "see you in the orange light" as well. I don't know what else to say about this song. lyrics below. as soon as I finish "on a green" (which, as always, has been 99% done for three years just need to finish the vocals), I'll release the entire album on bandcamp and spotify and whatever
